Remodeling: Hollis & Vane

An editorial site for a high-end remodeler, built for a decision that takes weeks, not minutes.

This is a concept, not client work. Hollis & Vane is a fictional company we invented to show how we design for remodeling contractors. The photos are licensed stock.

Who it’s for

Couples planning a kitchen, bathroom or whole-home renovation from about $50,000 to well over $200,000. They research for weeks, compare portfolios, and worry most about budget, timeline and living through the work.

Set in the Raleigh–Durham, North Carolina. The business is fictional.

The design challenge

High-end remodeling isn’t an emergency, so a loud “call now” site would cheapen it. But a beautiful portfolio with no clear next step loses the lead to whoever answers questions first.

Homeowners need to picture both the result and the months of process, without the site promising prices or timelines it can’t keep.

The conversion strategy

Why the page is laid out the way it is. These are design decisions, not measured results; a concept site has no real visitors.

  • Projects as stories

Work is presented as editorial plates with captions about the problem, the decisions and the result, so a visitor judges thinking as well as finishes.

  • Show the process up front

Five clear stages from consultation to walk-through answer the biggest fear, a project that drags on with no end in sight.

  • A consultation, not a quote

The primary action is a design consultation, with optional budget and timeline fields that qualify the lead without scaring anyone off.

  • Calm, confident copy

No urgency tactics. The site sounds like the firm you’d trust with your house for months.

The look

A visual identity made for this one business. None of it is shared with the other concepts.
